A Heavenly Slice of Nature North of Denver

You would probably just pass right by it if you didn’t know it was there, alongside Highway 25, just north of Denver.  This is a nature and wildlife sanctuary, even bonanza of living things, colors, sights and smells.

It’s the St. Vrain State Park in Longmont.

I took my family there this past weekend, and had our kids, 9 yrs, and 1 year doing the trail that is on the east end of the park, that parallels I-25 (I think it’s called Pelican Pond).

It’s a great 1 or so mile hike, so not too difficult.  It is a photography goldmine of lake reflections, abandoned cabins, flowers (particularly Sunflowers in the late Fall) and old trees.

Living in Denver offers plentiful opportunities like this to connect with nature, to get out of town (even if you are still technically in  town)  – to escape.
